Contact:
PM this account and/or ask for my discord. I do not like mass-adding others on plurk. Ask before adding, always. If I have defriended you on plurk, it is not personal; it will be because I've noticed we interact very little OOCly or ICly and prefer the small, intimate list. You are welcome to readd if that changes!
Timezone:
EST
Formatting:
Prose preferred 100% of the time. I exclusively tag from my phone and have frequent trouble with HTML. This is also the reason I make frequent typos.
Sensitive Topics:
Please avoid any topics surrounding homophobia/transphobia, diet culture, and I prefer not to write non-consensual activities. References to them are OK with advance discussion with me OOCly. I prefer blunt, to the point communication when it comes to anything sensitive and I will communicate similarly in return.
Tag Speed:
I try to never let anything go longer than a week, and average at around ~3 days response time. Feel free to message me and nudge me about anything at any time, particularly if you think I may have lost a tag.
Backtagging:
Yes, with caveats: If a (game) thread was started 2+ months ago and we are still in the middle of it, I need to know where it is going so that I can set timelines correct in my head, so I may reach out and ask for direction.
Fourthwall:
No thank you.
Threadjacking:
Please ask first.
Handwaving:
What I do love to handwave are things like: travel to and from a location (or anything else that might cinematically
cut-to for better flow in a film) or anything that might feel repetitive (the same conversation with 3+ characters). What I don't like to handwave are actual conversations that impact CR or further plot. It's one thing if we want to say 'my character recognizes yours from a party and introductions aren't needed', it's another if we just say 'our characters met and are friends now', because I actually don't know if they are friends until I feel out the chemistry. I don't like to force CR. This is a bit more forgiving for memes/threads that aren't ongoing canons.
Cross-Canon CR:
I absolutely adore Cross-Canon and want more of it! I do not discriminate between types of Canon, either. I will ship a video game guy with a live-action guy, a comic book guy, an anime guy, and so on, as long as there is chemistry and their energies match, I will cherish the CR I get.
Negative CR:
I don't mind negative CR. Like I said above, I just do not want CR to feel forced. If it feels forced, I simply will let our characters part ways amicably with no hard feelings between the players. I have friends in this hobby that I never RP with because we do not have tag chemistry, and that is totally cool. That said, I do not consider THAT negative CR. What I consider negative is our characters actively disliking or antagonizing one another. As long as it is with reason and not forced (as with any other CR), I can enjoy it as much as my positive CR. What I do prefer, if we find our characters heading in a negative direction, is OOC contact. I find a lot of people may have boundaries, and I'd like to discuss them. I also never want my negative CR to feel like there is an IC/OOC bleed. I prefer my negative CR played for
comedic effect. Negativity for the sake of negativity can be draining, however if our characters are bickering and it is funny to us, that is an entirely different story. If you're unsure of anything I said in this section or need clarity, please reach out and ask!
In Character
Warnings for this Character:
If any of the following information makes you uncomfortable, it would be unwise to seek CR with this character... Lucanis is an assassin. He speaks about this profession casually like it is as normal as any other. Where he is from, it is. He is also possessed by a demon. Demons in Dragon Age are not the same sort of entities you read about in real-world religious texts and working for a great evil, however they can be manipulated by evil mages or entities to do their bidding. Lucanis spent a year imprisoned where he was heavily tortured by blood mages after killing a high-standing member of a supremacist cult and freeing his slaves/avenging those that were brutalized. During that year, a demon was forced into his body, and neither he or the demon consented to the attachment. After these events, Lucanis became deeply depressed and experienced suicidal ideation. While his mental state has improved, he is still the brooding type.
Physical Contact:
A character has my permission to physically engage Lucanis in any way (touch, hug, kiss, etc) with the understanding that his reactions will be IC. Lucanis struggles with physical touch and may not react positively.
Mental Contact/Psychic Abilities:
Unless my tag gives you distinct fodder for mind-reading, etc, please reach out to me first to discuss. Lucanis' mind is actually kind of a mess, so I'd like to provide you with guidance. There are two distinct entities inside of his mind: His own, and Spite. Spite is a demon that is sharing his body and will think more abstractly. If your character's psychic abilities are magic-based, Lucanis will be able to tell they are doing something (more on this on his information page under his abilities section and below under 'magical abilities').
Magical Abilities:
A character has my permission to magically engage Lucanis, however he possesses an uncanny ability to sense it being used. This ability pre-dates his demonic possession and is a natural skill of his. It is why he specialized in killing mages. There is more detailed information about this on his information page/under abilities.
Fighting & Violence:
Lucanis is an expert assassin. This does not mean he desires fighting. He gets paid to do this work and will not go looking for fights for free. He will, however, defend himself if he is attacked. Please be aware of who your character is attacking: He is extremely good at his job, has extremely keen senses, and is possessed by a demon that grants him additional abilities. He knows when he is being tracked, and he will not go easy on his attacker.
Injuries & Death:
As mentioned above, Lucanis is an expert assassin with very keen senses. He also shrugs off injuries that normal humans would not (at least until he is able to properly care for them). Your character may injure him during a fight if it makes sense to. Please discuss this with me first, as the results will affect future gameplay for me. Death is off the table unless thoroughly discussed and planned for.
Powers / Abilites
Fighting Style:
Lucanis stylishly deals necrotic damage in battle with his dual-daggers, whilst supporting his companions with potions and buffs.
"Street Medic":
Trained to be agile on a job and prepared for anything, as well as having deep knowledge of how best to
injure/kill a person, Lucanis is well-trained in the human anatomy and possesses the knowledge of how to treat wounds and injuries on the fly. He is not squeamish and can extract metal from a body with his hands, knows how to stop bleeding, dress a wound or set a bone, etc. His skill in this category is what I am calling "crude" for a lack of better term. He is not a medical professional and after one is treated by him in an emergency, they should seek actual medical help.
Sensing Magic:
Lucanis possesses the ability to sense when the Veil [between the natural and supernatural plane of existence] is being tapped into. It makes the backs of his eyeballs itch. When hunting mages, he knows to âfollow the migraineâ.
Spite's Reach:
Spite has the ability to pull objects through the Veil into the natural plane (in-game this is usually just platforms to get players from point A to B). These objects will appear unnatural and often are made of bone. They tend to sparkle with a purple hue, as all of Spite's magic does.
Spite's Wings:
Spite controls a pair of Lucanis-sized wings, usually used during combat to help him maneuver around the battlefield better. Lucanis himself does not control these, so he and Spite have to be aligned on their goals in order to take advantage of them. They glow purple at his back and look skeletal in nature. The feathers are a shadowy, translucent black and molt frequently, though turn to ash as they fall to the ground.
Debilitate:
Lucanis opens up his enemies with a debilitating strike. Deals high Stagger. In-game, Stagger is an effect that makes enemies vulnerable and allows for powerful takedown attacks.
Soothing Potion:
A Talon is ready for anything and never without a potent concoction on hand. Lucanis tosses a restorative tincture to you, granting Rejuvenation. Rejuvenation grands a healing-over-time buff in-game. For RP purposes, it could be handwaved as instant healing or a slow creep of a medication becoming effective... up to the player!
Eviscerate:
Lucanis deals a decisive blow, targeting an enemy's weakest point. At half health or less, this deals bonus damage, increasing in effectiveness the closer the target is to death. For RP purposes, just assume 'half-health' is referring to someone significantly winded during the fight.
Adrenaline Rush:
Lucanis gives you a rousing shout, motivating you to act with renewed determination. Grants Enhanced Damage. (We call this the praise kink simulator)
Abominate:
Lucanis sweeps the area with demonic strength. Deals high Barrier damage and applies Knocked Down to enemies in the area. In essence, this means that magical barriers are weakened and enemies swept off of their feet.
Shipping
OTP/NoTP:
I don't really subscribe to OTP stuff because I've had so many great, unsuspected pairing threads, particularly with cross-canon CR. In terms of Rook!mance, I love to write Lucanis with Crow-Rook. In terms of other canon-ships, I do enjoy him with Neve, and I really, really love shipping him with Davrin. I am also interested in attempting to write him in a pairing setting against Emmrich or Bellara. In terms of cross-canon ships, let's feel it out and see where things go! Successful cross-canon ships I've achieved in the past vary greatly, but to give you some idea of what types of characters blend well with him, here's a shortlist: Gale Dekarios of BG3 (Dellakarios REAL. I lied, this is my OTP and I am not normal about it), Yennefer of Vengerberg from the Witcher, Tianyou Zhao of the Yakuza series. There have been others, but they have usually been OCs, so it doesn't help the average reader to list them (if you're reading this, I still love you).
Flirtation & Affection:
He
can flirt, but has no idea how to handle things when they move fast. He is demisexual and does not find attraction to others unless he has developed a personal relationship with them, first. He can appear disinterested or dissociative when flirted with otherwise, but it is actually just insecurity or anxiety. If a character is interested in him, patience and understanding is key. Understand that this is complicated for him since he is possessed by Spite. At the start of
Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Lucanis is a virgin. Virgin to me does
not mean uncomfortable with or unknowledgeable about sex. It just wasn't a priority.
Availability & Relationships:
Lucanis has never had a labeled romantic partner before. He has had romantic interest in others, but had trouble expressing it. His love languages are acts of service and words of affirmation, with the acts of service being more frequent (and unfortunately, tends to be quite subtle and hard to pinpoint as affection or flirting). He is bad at gift giving, after gifting another man he was interested in with a knife, which went poorly. He is a romantic at heart and desires a slow, romantic build. When in a relationship, he will regularly express his love verbally. His love for romance often places him in a position of giving others romantic advice, despite his inexperience. Because Lucanis is possessed, Spite will have a lot to say about his choice of romantic partners, but often encourages him if it is someone he approves of. While Spite can momentarily leave Lucanis during intimate times out of respect for his privacy, the right romantic partner can gain Spite's approval as well, making it that much stronger. Because Lucanis and Spite cannot safely be separated, Lucanis will have a difficult time maintaining a relationship with anyone who shows discomfort in Spite's presence.
Turn-Ons:
Romance, confidence, loyalty, kindness, determination, strength, understanding, humor, safety. He needs to feel understood and to be reassured that he is enough.
You can fix him.
Turn-Offs:
Dismissiveness, controlling behavior, manipulative behavior, orders, suspiciousness, confinement. Lucanis does not like feeling disrespected and needs a sense of freedom. If he feels feared or trapped, he will greatly disapprove. If spoken down to or coddled like he cannot care for or fend for himself, he will be irritated. He needs to feel respected and supported, but not parented.
