INFO
After a particular job that involved a fashion show, a supremacist mage cult (Venatori blood mages), and a lot of wigs, he earned himself the title "The Demon of Vyrantium". The job and Lucanis in particular caught the eye of Magister Zara Renata, who later captures Lucanis and forcefully inserts a demon of Spite into his body.
Demons cannot usually possess non-mages and is typically a consensual agreement between mage and demon. In Lucanis and Spite's case, their binding was unwanted on both sides, and therefore the two of them made an agreement in the name of vengeance. Spite's possession has given Lucanis additional abilities, but also costs him some control, particularly when he is asleep. Because of this, Lucanis is an insomniac.
During the events of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Lucanis and Spite come to further agreements within their shared body over coffee. Currently, Spite is no threat to Lucanis outside of the occasional interest in tasting self-lighting candles. It is worth noting that despite Lucanis seeing Spite as his own person, a shadowy-reflection of himself, others cannot unless Spite invites them into Lucanis' mind. When Spite takes over Lucanis' body, his eyes will glow purple and he will speak in harsher tones.
Lucanis is an introverted individual with a calm and even demeanor. He is loyal, hard-working, and appreciates a direct, no-nonsense approach. Despite becoming infamous for his work as a fearsome assassin, he is not thrilled by attention. It is only his loyalty to his family that causes him to accept the title of First Talon.
His traumatic past haunts him and makes him a brooding type, often punishing himself for his past actions. He can be anxious, seeking a sense of belonging and security, but he does not like to be coddled. He appreciates feeling heard and acknowledged, but also demands respect and can often come off as harsh, or tough.
He can be emotionally distant unless his trust is earned. Do not take his trust lightly; if broken he will not feel safe being vulnerable. He is more open to discussing his passions for coffee, his family, or his work. He is more closed off regarding his own inner turmoil until he feels he is speaking to a person who can accept him and appreciate who he is.
He moves with a casual confidence and is extremely light on his feet. He is expressive, but can often seem emotionally cold due to his own professionalism and concerns for seeming too vulnerable. He speaks with a soft and even voice, with a particularly measured pronunciation. A pair of black-and-purple wings often emerges from his back when he is active, these belong to Spite, the demon sharing his body. They glow and have a skeletal appearance.
In control of Lucanis' body, Spite will completely change Lucanis' demeanor, posture, and voice. It is easy to tell when he is at the wheel. He crouches more often, sneers and scowls, and his eyes glow purple in color. His voice will take on a more gruff tone, but he will still use Lucanis' accent. If one is lucky enough to be invited into Lucanis' mind by Spite, he will appear as his own entity, the way that Lucanis sees him. He looks identical to Lucanis, however appears more shadowlike, in hues of purple. In Lucanis' head, Spite does not use his voice and instead talks in a louder, more boastful voice with a completely different accent.
Sensing Magic β« Lucanis possesses the ability to sense when the Veil [between the natural and supernatural plane of existence] is being tapped into. It makes the backs of his eyeballs itch. When hunting mages, he knows to βfollow the migraineβ.
Spite's Reach β« Spite has the ability to pull objects through the Veil into the natural plane (in-game this is usually just platforms to get players from point A to B). These objects will appear unnatural and often are made of bone.
Spite's Wings β« Spite controls a pair of Lucanis-sized wings, usually used during combat to help him maneuver around the battlefield better. Lucanis himself does not control these, so he and Spite have to be aligned on their goals in order to take advantage of them. They glow purple at his back and look skeletal in nature.
Debilitate β« Lucanis opens up his enemies with a debilitating strike. Deals high Stagger.
Soothing Potion β« A Talon is ready for anything and never without a potent concoction on hand. Lucanis tosses a restorative tincture to you, granting Rejuvenation.
Eviscerate β« Lucanis deals a decisive blow, targeting an enemy's weakest point. At half health or less, this deals bonus damage, increasing in effectiveness the closer the target is to death.
Adrenaline Rush β« Lucanis gives you a rousing shout, motivating you to act with renewed determination. Grants Enhanced Damage.
Abominate β« Lucanis sweeps the area with demonic strength. Deals high Barrier damage and applies Knocked Down to enemies in the area.
